The sense of knowing that some idea is just around the corner, waiting to be born, but still gestating inarticulately. I will dance today with other’s words and put them together in different ways, as I play around with the inchoate. May the 5th 2023

Has the idea been born? Yes.

Do I know yet how it will be articulated? Not completely.

On the other hand, reviewing my own explorations on the blog is extremely valuable. Not only from the perspective of being able to reflect on the evolution of my own thinking but also as indicator of the time it takes for this to happen.

Now, I need the words to describe the space or place where two disparate knowledge systems meet – ba, as I explore in the blogpost linked above, is the space where knowledge is created; but does not necessarily imply the comingling of knowledges, particularly incommensurable ones whose epistemologies and cosmologies must be navigated in order to find common ground. When I look for interfaces between knowledge systems in the literature, I find mentions of Nakata and Yunkaporta. A clear hint that I am already immersed in the right space for thinking about this topic.

The interface between Indigenous knowledge systems and Western scientific knowledge systems is a contested space where the difficult dialogue between us and them is often reduced to a position of taking sides. (Nakata, 2010)

Why should this be so?

The interface between science and indigenous knowledge need not be a site of contest. Rather, it can provide opportunities for the expansion of knowledge and understanding. (Durie, 2004)

Understanding, then, becomes the basis for social design. As it has always been so.
